Derrek Niec-Williams
Derrek Niec-Williams was recently announced as Howard University’s new assistant vice president for Planning and Architecture for the Office of Real Estate Development and Capital Asset Management. Niec-Williams will bring an extensive portfolio of planning and projects into his new role, where he will execute Howard University’s institutional goals while honoring the university legacy through strategic planning, design and sustainability.
Most recently, Niec-Williams, a Howard University alumnus, served as the university’s executive director of Campus Planning, Architecture and Development, where he led numerous initiatives including the 2020 Central Campus Master plan, a roadmap for campus transformation and historic acknowledgment. In addition, Williams led the largest renovation project in university history, totaling $785 million, and various campus projects, including the LEED Gold Interdisciplinary Research Building and the modernization of Howard Plaza Towers East & West, Tubman Quadrangle and College Halls North and South.
